BRITISH FILM DESIGNERS GUILD

The BFDG is a flourishing, growing, professional group of skilled Creatives and Production Designers, spanning the various branches of the Art Department in Film, Television and Commercials. To date we have over 630 accredited members.

We were formed over 75 years ago with the aim of raising the standards and profile of the Art Department and protecting the interests of our members. Those core principles still apply today, and we are a thriving and evolving creative community

We offer our members a range of benefits including the opportunity to promote themselves and their work,  networking events (which includes workshops, design forums and informative Q & A sessions), unique accident insurance, work availability information, industry news and the highlight of the year, our annual awards which celebrates our members’ talents.

In the third Design Forum of our series featuring winners from the 12th BFDG Production Design Awards, we are joined by the creative team behind The Batman talking to BFDG Vice Chair Jonathan Paul Green.

James Chinlund - PD, Grant Armstrong - SAD and Lee Sandales - SD will discuss their three year design journey investigating the world of Gotham.Their primary challenge was finding a way to bring a new take to an audience that had been exposed to so many diverse iterations of the world in the years and decades prior. This event is free to members of the BFDG. Non-members £5.00, special rates for students and juniors apply.

BFDG Learn – Getting Your First Art Department Job

At our next BFDG Learn we are holding a forum for students and industry newcomers who are just starting out in their Art Department careers. You will be able to meet our panel of experts who will answer your questions and address your worries about how to achieve your goal. The panel are: Gemma Jackson - PD, Neil Lamont - PD and Helen Johnson, Director of Talking Point.

Join Kesoon Chance (Industry specialist at Vectorworks UK) for a one day training session that is aimed at members that want to dip their feet in the water with CAD or would like to learn more about a different design software than they have previously used. No experience is required as this will be an introduction session. The training will take in person at Pinewood Studios and will include lunch, coffee, tea and biscuits.

Cost: £65 + VAT (subsidised by the BFDG)
