In this episode of Work in Progress, Mark Kermode speaks to the winner of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award – Production Designer, Martin Childs.
Martin talks about how, as a young architect with a passion for cinema he was inspired by the film ‘The Third Man’ and decided architecture wasn’t for him going on to pursue a career in film design. Martin has had a fascinating career, from his first job as an assistant on Blue Peter to winning an Oscar for designing ‘Shakespeare in Love’, working with the likes of Kenneth Branagh, the Hughes brothers and Philip Kaufman and most recently working as Production Designer on all 6 seasons of the award-winning series ‘The Crown’.
