Biography

Carlisle-based Scenic Artist Alex Morrison brings an international fine-art practice to film and television. Born in Cornwall and raised on Canada’s West Coast, Alex brings an established international fine-art practice to film and television, combining strong pictorial painting and design skills with a detailed understanding of historical and contemporary decorative finishes. Exhibiting internationally since 1999, Alex’s work is held in public and private collections, and spans painting, sculpture, furniture, signage and public art.

Alex’s most recent screen credits include Mayfair Witches Series 3 (2025), Remarkably Bright Creatures (2025), The Hunting Party (2024), and Under the Bridge (2022–24). Working as an IATSE scenic painter since 2019, Alex has created hand-painted signage, ornamental designs, murals, oil portraits, concept drawings, and painted and aged sets and props.

Alongside scenic painting, Alex is keen to assist art directors with visual research, concept development, presentation material and design support. Alex's prolific fine and public-art practice has allowed him to develop skills in Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp and V-Ray. Fundamentally, he has the ability to translate initial ideas into clear conceptual designs and resolved visual proposals.

Informed by vernacular architecture, domestic spaces, decorative traditions, graphic language and material texture, Alex’s fine-art practice brings a considered visual language to scenic work. Specialist skills include sign painting and hand lettering, sculpting, marbling, wood graining, ageing and distressing, wallpaper hanging, wall plastering, and preparation and finishing work.

Having recently relocated to Carlisle, Alex is now seeking scenic-art and general art department opportunities throughout the UK. He has his own transport and is available to travel nationwide for productions.
