I trained as an architect at Cambridge University and qualified in 1990. I subsequently worked on the new British Library at Euston amongst other commercial and residential projects.
Both at university and subsequently on the London fringe, I designed numerous stage sets.In 1997 I turned to full-time freelance illustration, fullfilling many commissions for architectural subjects for Clients such as CZWG and CD Partnership/Conran studio, and drawing a national newspaper cartoon strip before joining the "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" art department as a concept artist.Since then I have worked on all the subsequent Harry Potter films, besides many other high-profile films of the last decades – see a cross-section of my work at www.andrewwilliamson.net and https://www.instagram.com/andrew_williamson_art/ In publishing, "Harry Potter: A Pop-up Book: Based on the Film Phenomenon" , which I illustrated, was the winner of a gold medal in the IP Book Awards in the US.I have a special interest in the integration of film design with visual effects, and I make considerable use of digital 3D in my concept design work. Prior to my return to freelancing I served as Global Head of Art Department and digital art director at VFX facility DNEG.
