Sandra Nieuwenhuijsen

Biography

Sandra Jasmin immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1998 from Germany with a background in civil, landscape and urban engineering. Following her passion for creativity, she earned her Masters degree of Digital Media – 3D VFX and Compositing. Sandra commenced her career as a Graphic and Motion Designer at IBI Group, a renowned global architecture firm, before venturing into the dynamic realms of the Film industry full time in 2003. 
In addition to her professional journey, Sandra actively contributes to the figurative arts community in Vancouver. Serving as the president on the board of Basic Inquiry, a non profit life drawing society. She played a pivotal role in scheduling life drawing models, managing sessions and successfully integrating 'Gesture' sessions as a key component of Basic Inquiry's offerings.
Committed to perpetual growth, she consistently enhances her skills and refines her creative vision through professional training in the fine arts, architecture, and photography. A standout moment in her journey was the invaluable art direction training she received from industry luminaries Terry Auckland-Snow and Ray Stanley at Pinewood Studios in England. She is a member of IATSE 891, the DGC, the BFDG, and BECTU. 
Over the last two decades Sandra has worked on American productions in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, northern BC and Sydney, Australia. She holds a Dutch EU passport and a Canadian permanent residence card and is a globetrotter.
Further, Sandra has garnered multiple nominations and exhibitions for her photography achievements and embarked on a notable venture to Uganda in East Africa, with a ‘Photography Without Borders’ assignment in 2018. Her impactful work from this experience has been published, further showcasing her dedication to visual storytelling. 
Her most recent achievement is being selected to exhibit as one of the finalists in the ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE 2024, Venice, Italy.
