I have experience in Feature Films, HETV, and all Bands of TV Drama, and have been working in the industry in various roles for the past 29 years. I have worked as Prop Master in Both the UK and US systems and the newer combined style which seems to be preferred by some of the US Productions, where the Prop Master runs the Action Props, archiving all the props for franchise as well as managing and running the Props Dressing and Prop Making side of things.
I was recently invited and joined the Property Masters Guild (USA)
I see the Props department as an arm of the Art and Set Dec departments and enjoy working closely and along side Set Decorators and Designers, striving to achieve the overall vision.
Working with my very talented, diverse, and inclusive team, that I have built up over the last few years where I have tried to change old perceptions of the stereotypical prop hand. I am also keen to encourage fresh young talent within the industry and will always try to have various grades of trainees on my team, not to replace roles but to encourage the growth and teaching of the next generation.
I am also very passionate about sustainability and make it a point to try and ensure that as much as possible is recycled during and at the end of a job rather than going to land fill.
I am experienced at running budgets, for Features / HETV (£5m+ Props Budget, Including labour, action props, prop makes, transport, L&D etc), Logistics, Dressing teams, Prop makes, Action Props and Standbys.
A little about my background, I trained originally at university as an Interior Designer, so had good quality drafting skills and found myself upon graduation getting a job working in the Art Department on Brookside and Hollyoaks at Mersey Television in the mid 90s, After 14+ years working in various roles within the art department (Standby Art Director / Graphics / Drafting / Supervising Art Director / Set Decorator / and Designing) on a variety of different TV show. I decidedly passion lay within props and had trained early on in the prop department so I starting working in the Prop department on Small TV Dramas as a Prop Master and also later on Feature Films, with my experience and previous knowledge I quickly progressed within films from Dresser / Maker / Chargehand and Supervisor to once again Property Master, where I have now settled but I do always like to keep my hand in elsewhere when I can.
